I just removed a tick from my dog’s back. I was unable to get the head out and it is still lodged. What can I do?
This is very common when removing a tick. What you can do is take some tweezers and pull out the head parts to the best of your ability. Do not worry much. The body within a matter of a couple of weeks will reabsorb the tick’s body parts. You can also do the following:
1- Wash area 1-2 times a day with an antibacterial soap.
2- After washing as above, apply a topical antibiotic like Neosporin or bacitracin.
3- Do the above 2 times a day for 7-10 days.
Follow the above recommendation and within the next 2-3 weeks follow up with your family veterinarian for a tick titer. Consider using tick prevention on your dog.
